26th Annual
HOT AUGUST PIPES
David H. Brock, Organist

Organist David H. Brock returns for the 26th annual of Hot August Pipes. The program includes J. S. Bach's Fantasy in G Major, BWV 572. This 3 part work was written relatively early in Bach's life during his time in Weimar, Germany. Also on the program are selections from American composer Leo Sowerby's Sinfonia Brevis. This rarely heard composition was written in the 1960's, and includes 3 movements, of which David has selected the Passacaglia, and the closing Fugue to present this year. These two movements show off Sowerby's compositional genius, his love of Jazz, and the craft of excellent compositional style, using structure of the Baroque, with modern harmonic structure. Also included is an original transcription by David of one of Scott Joplin's most loved rags, the Weeping Willow.

All benefit soiree ticketing will be donated to Tahoe Symphony (TOCCATA), and to Our Lady of Tahoe Church for their outreach program.

About Our Soirées

A soirée, from the French term for "evening," traditionally signifies an elegant evening gathering. The Tahoe Symphony hosts its own version of soirées, typically in the mid to late afternoon for convenience. These gatherings celebrate vocal and instrumental music, continuing a tradition that spans centuries.

Our soirées, held in private homes or clubs, accommodate twenty to forty guests who enjoy light refreshments and hors d'oeuvres. While more casual than traditional evening soirées, they offer a unique charm without the need for formal attire.
